Positioned right next to Buchanan St Subway station Amarone is definitely the ideal destination for the weary shopper, theatre-goer, or anyone who’s just finished work in the City Centre and can’t really face going home to cook, but it has far more to recommend it than just location. Amarone aims to provide a relaxed finer-dining experience and this is well reflected in the stylish decor of dark woods and light neutral tones, with a few feature pieces, such as the eye-catching lamp-shades. Even when busy the atmosphere is chilled out and comfortable, perfect for a romantic rendezvous or catch up with old friends – try asking for a booth if you’d like a more intimate setting.
The menu has an admirable selection of pizzas and pastas, as well as plenty of meat and seafood dishes, but don’t necessarily expect the usual fare – Amarone is perfect if you’re in the mood for Italian food, but would like to try something new. The Orecchiette Mare e Monti (miniature pasta shells with courgettes, peas, tiger prawns, cod and pancetta) is popular, and the veal cutlet, loin of tender pink-cooked lamb and 10oz fillet steak are big hits among the main courses.
